Eyes on the Prize
Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965 | Juan Williams
3 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Eyes on the Prize traces the movement from the landmark Brown v. the Board of Education case in 1954 to the march on Selma and the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965. This is a companion volume to the first part of the acclaimed PBS series.

On Civil Rights kick, for obvious reasons. This is the companion to the PBS series, and it has an oral-history angle you couldn‘t pull off now, when even John Lewis is 80. The current anti-police brutality movement is in many ways more like the 50-60s struggle than much since. The big difference is how much organization, strategy and planning went into something like the Montgomery Bus Boycott. I hope that doesn‘t tell against the movement today.

BookFreakOut @Soubhiville My first choice was Artificial Condition by Martha Wells, will have to wait and see if I get that or one of my other choices! All my picks were from Tor, though, so any of them will be great! 6y
