Went to an advanced screening of John Wick with some work friends and was unprepared for a movie that was almost 3 hours long 😅 parts of this movie were excellent and parts of this movie were kinda boring.

I was super surprised by a Ned Kelly reference that Winston made because that seems like such a niche Australian reference for an American big budget action movie to make…

Have you heard of Ned Kelly? I‘d love to know!

SamAnne Who‘s Ned Kelly? 😀🤔 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @SamAnne, he was an Australian bush ranger who was executed in Melbourne in 1880. He‘s best known today for his insane suit of armour, made from farming equipment that allowed him to escape from several shoot outs with police, unharmed. This suit of armour is now on display at the State Library. His last words (which may just be urban legend) were reported to be ‘such is life‘ which is what what was referenced in John Wick. (edited) 13mo
ravenlee I had a very vague awareness of Ned Kelly (like, I‘d probably heard the name in something like The Man from Snowy River or Five Mile Creek or something else from my childhood) until I read In a Sunburned Country a couple years ago. 13mo

xicanti I know of him through TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG by Peter Carey, but I do t think I‘ve ever heard him directly referenced here in Canada. 13mo
julesG Ned Kelly was part of my uni course on the Irish diaspora. 13mo
Bookzombie Yes, there was a movie with Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom. I‘m pretty sure I saw that. 😁 13mo
Bookzombie I will watch this because I enjoy John Wick, but I wish it was shorter. 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @ravenlee, I had to look up five mile creek - Nicole Kidman was in it for a minute! Great Australian cast by the look of it. I watched the man from Snowy River (the show) as a kid too. Thanks for your answer, I love finding out how people know about things. 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @xicanti, an Aussie classic (I should probably try a Peter Carey book at some point) 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, ooh! Now that is interesting! An other Irish-Australians make the syllabus? 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Bookzombie, yes indeed! Heath Ledger was Ned Kelly. I wasn‘t sure if that movie had been released internationally. 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Bookzombie, for sure! It needed a bit more story (or even some humour) to support the action sequences. I feel like there was several really cool storylines that could have been perused but alas! 13mo
CarolynM I posted a picture of the Ned statue at Glenrowan last year and @LeahBergen surprised me by recognising it😆 My favourite bit of Kelly mythologising is the Redgum song Poor Ned. 13mo
LeahBergen @CarolynM Yes! I can‘t remember when I first heard about him but found the folklore surrounding him fascinating. I really enjoyed 13mo
julesG I think we talked more about the reasons for why and when the Irish came to Australia. We might have talked about a few famous figures from the 19th century. O'Hara Burke from the expedition to cross the whole continent of AUS comes to mind. 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, I did not know that O‘Hara Burke was Burke of Burke and Wills fame. When I was in primary school, the sporting houses (everyone was divided into one of four houses) were named after Australian explorers - I think Burke was one of them. I was in Hume - who I‘m going to google now because I don‘t remember a single thing about him. 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CarolynM, I didn‘t this song - I‘ve added it to my Spotify playlist 13mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LeahBergen, I feel like I may need to read it and find out more. I know there is a book about his sister that came out a few years ago - that just made me feel so sad. 13mo
LeahBergen @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Oh, that sounds interesting! I‘m off to investigate. 13mo

Don‘t be like John Wick! Libraries log in house use — it helps to know if something is being used when it comes to weeding, and, for public libraries, usage can help with funding. Circulation statistics aren‘t the only use numbers libraries need; there are many reasons a book may be read in the library and not checked out. Also, it‘s easier to misshelve a book than you might think; if it‘s not in the right place, it might as well be lost.

KathyWheeler I saw this on Facebook and liked it so I thought I‘d share it here. 😊 4y
FlowerFairy 🤣 4y
Professional_Book_Dragon I love it so much I had to give. A heart and a comment! 4y
KathyWheeler @Professional_Book_Dragon that‘s how I felt about it too when I first saw it. So many commenters on the original post thought they were being helpful when they reshelved books and wondered why their libraries had signs asking them not to do that. 4y

While the men in my home watched John Wick, I began a new rug. Blue is the color and flannel make my fingers ache but my mind is soothed. #rugtwining

So...John Wick 3 gets things ramped up at the beginning...in a library.

Shows that the book is mightier than the knife.

Which means...

You need to see John Wick 3. Of course.

😎👍🏻👍🏻

#MovieNight with @MrBook ! Popcorn, coke icee, and John Wick 2! 🍿😊

aubergine123 Loved the first one. I appreciated how they made him want vengeance without violence against women. 7y
Melkyl We saw it this afternoon. It was an action-packed movie. I liked it, but my husband did not like it as well as the first one. The first one is one of his all-time favorites. 7y
TNbooklover66 We saw it this afternoon too. Fun movie! 7y

It's movie time ???????!!! Time for "John Wick 2", ohhhh yeeaah ???. Love me some Keanu Reeves. Side note: there were several lines when we got here. We went into the wrong line, the "Fifty Shades Darker" one, lol, which was kind of eye-brow arching as almost everyone in the line was moms and young daughters. Annnyway, so anyone see the first or second John Wick yet? ???????

LittleWonder I love John Wick! Keanu gave a fabulous interview about the character on the Nerdist podcast this week. 7y
MaleficentBookDragon Loved John Wick. Seeing 2 tomorrow. But this looks great. https://www.facebook.com/freddiewspage/videos/1637189776308164/ 7y
Lola I husband saw 2 last night while I was attending my #Litsypartyofone (and being the adult in charge of a teenage sleepover 🙄) and he really enjoyed it. (edited) 7y

tpixie Just got back from seeing it! I'm ready for #3! Important rule John follows: always make certain the people you shoot are really dead! 7y
KassKho I haven't seen the movie but the filmed one of the car chase scenes right outside my work 😂😂 7y
Tonton Just watched first John Wick on Netflix, woo hoo! Can't wait to see 2! Does his new dog make it through? My dog wants to costar in the next 7y

I just watched the movie so I can watch the second one with a friend. It fit my work-angry mood and was very good for relieving stress. I only recommend this to those who like violent movies. I am a big fan of the Jason Bourne movies so this was right up my alley. I wonder how the book is? Do you think my library has it?

Eyelit If APL doesn't have it there is always interlibrary loan 😃 (but I bet they have it - they tend to have the books that make it to movies) 7y
LibrarianRyan But the puppy. It was so hard to watch after that. 7y
jpmcwisemorgan @Eyelit APL is my best friend! I will check on Monday. @LibrarianRyan I know! But he got them all in the end. 7y
LibrarianRyan @jpmcwisemorgan that he did. Plus I like Keanu when he is kicking rear. But I would love to see a return of TED 7y
Sjo_m Great movie - didn't realise there was a book so will be keeping an eye out for that!! The Bourne movies are immense!! 7y
