I loved this picture book! Kiddo liked it, too. Very young Elva wants a violin but parents say no. She goes through her whole life missing it, until old-age Elva finally gets one for herself. She struggles to make music, but once she takes some lessons her violin starts to speak! I was really moved by this idea of finally freeing the music within. The idea of perseverance, of it never being too late to follow dreams, was beautifully done.

ravenlee I asked for a piano/piano lessons starting at age 4. While I eventually got a keyboard and taught myself some, then had lessons in college (music majors are requires to have minor study in piano), I didn‘t get my own piano until about six years ago, 30 years after I first asked. Now I‘m teaching kiddo how to play, and I treasure every second we spend together at the keys. 2y

This is a generational picture book. Elva want a violin. She heard someone playing and wants to make her own music. Her parent say no. Years pass, decades pass, and finally Elva gets her violin.

I was not expecting this book to flow over 50+ years. Elva only realizes her dream when she is an older woman with time on her hands. I think it is a great way to show that you are never too old to learn new things.
