Historical fiction about the gold star mothers who went to see their sons‘ graves in France between the world wars. This was for #BookspinBingo in September, so I‘ll use it as a free spot in October. #TeamSlaughter #Scarathalon2021

Overall I liked the storyline and the characters in this book. I was a little confused on a couple of the storylines- why they turned out the way they did and at least one of them seemed unfinished to me. I grabbed this book as i walked by it at the library. I didn‘t even slow down! I just liked the book cover 🙂

tpixie It is a great cover!! 5y
monalyisha Also commenting to show appreciation for the cover! What is it about it exactly? 😍 (edited) 5y
Kelican17 @monalyisha the cover is lovely isn‘t it! Historical fiction- follows the story of a mother who‘s son was killed in France during WW1. The US gov. sent the mothers of these boys to Europe to visit their graves because the families decided not to have their remains shipped back (for various reasons). Lighthearted and hopeful with both happy and sad moments. 5y

monalyisha Oh thanks! I meant: what is it about the cover that makes it so special? 😉 5y
Kelican17 @monalyisha oof! 😂 nothing particularly special about it. But when i go to the library I usually don‘t go with a book in mind. I wander the aisles until something “catches my eye.” This one did! 5y
monalyisha @Kelican17 I think, for me, it might be that it looks like soft, embroidered leather. It looks “fine” & “handmade,” but also a bit worn. It‘s definitely an awesome design! 5y
monalyisha @Kelican17 I should do more browsing. I‘m so adherent to my TBR & pre-reading reviews. 5y

I can't say that it was love, but it will be a good book to discuss for book club later this month. If you're into historical fiction, this could be for you! Side note, I thought this would be a lot more sad than it turned out to be. Also the audio version is well done.

There's no news on Litsy about this one...I'm kind of surprised.
