To get there, she must team up with her greatest enemy, the feral beast-woman, Cheetah. Will this unlikely alliance shine the light of truth on Diana s darkest secrets, or bury them and her forever? Find out in WONDER WOMAN VOL. 1: THE LIES exploding from the blockbuster DC Rebirth event! Legendary Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka (BATWOMAN: ELEGY) makes his triumphant return to the character for the first time in years and joins renowned fantasy artist Liam Sharp (2000 AD)for one of the most momentous stories in Diana s history! I really enjoyed this book. It was beautifully illustrated, promoted strong female friendship which are sorely lacking in a lot of comics I've read, and all out some serious toxic masculinity. Loved it

Mixed feelings. Issues 1 and 3 start a conspiracy story, while 2 delves into Wonder Woman's backstory. The illustrations in 1 and 2 are glorious. In 3, they alternated to various other artists which makes the visual tone vary widely. It's not bad, per-say, just obvious when the art style changes back and forth. For new readers, start with 2. Then read 1 and 3 which have lots of characters from WW's past. #dw2020reads

Per Reddit, in case anyone was as confused as I was about the odd numbered issues. 🤔🤔🤔💡 #themoreyouknow

Books_Wine_Repeat @KathyWheeler @DGRachel This explains it. 🙃🙃🙃 6y
DivineDiana Rather strange decision! 🤔 6y
DGRachel Very interesting...🤔 6y

This has been on my Hoopla wishlist forever. Why does it skip the even numbered issues? Is this only on Hoopla? Why?? #butwhy #hoopladontfailmenow

DGRachel That‘s...weird. 6y
KathyWheeler That makes no sense. 6y
Schlinkles It‘s not only on Hoopla, the second volume collects the even numbered issues. I‘m guessing there were two storylines going on and they alternated issues, hence splitting them even and odd. 6y

Y'all. I'm not super familiar with graphic novels, and I'm usually more of a Marvel girl than DC... but I needed to get this when I saw it at the library. I consumed it in a few hours (had to stop here and there for Mama duties 🤗). It was a great introduction to Wonder Woman. The illustrations are absolutely stunning. I can't wait to read the other volumes in this series when I can get my hands on them. 5🌟

I want to #TakeItAll when it comes to all the graphic novels in this series. I consumed this first one pretty quickly this afternoon. Will be going to the library for the other two tomorrow, even though I still have tons of other library books to read. #AdelesMayMashUp @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

GatheringBooks i have the same exact feeling with graphic novels i love! :) 6y

Lauredhel @BookInMyHands there's nothing tricky about this! Hdc and DC, you just have to count stitches and take the pattern one bit at a time. 6y

I enjoyed this but felt like I was missing out on some important backstory or information. Maybe it‘s because I haven‘t read a ton in the DC universe or maybe that was how I was supposed to feel with the whole “Wonder Woman was deceived” thing...

LibrarianRyan Books one and two help fill in the story. Three kind of skips but 4 gets really bad as they start going back in forth in time and across stories. It's maddening. 6y

I LOVED Wonder Woman the movie. It makes sense to read up on this amazing lady! This one was definitely different from the movie but I liked her story.

Didn't make the ultimate goal but read a lot longer than my first few Readathons! Best read: Passion of Dolssa. Bailed on two audiobooks and one print that weren't doing it for me. Until next time! #24in48

I love every individual element of this new Wonder Woman series, especially the meta writing and the art, but the whole package failed to wow me and I can't put my finger on why. I'll give it one more volume, though, in case I find my way into the story as it plays out.

I liked the art (flat boots with no stilettos, yay!) and the basic storyline - 4 stars.

But there was a lot of ancillary information one just had to have to understand what exactly was going on - like what's up with the lady in charge? Who's this Cheetah person? - 3 stars.

Read for the Graphic Novel Book group at my store.

An interesting start to this series.... trying to take all the Wonder Woman stories that have come before and meld them together into one..... in volume one Wonder Woman tries to sort the truth from the lies....which, if any, of the stories that came before are her story, maybe they will all prove to be lies, leaving us with something completely new, maybe not, only time (and a few more volumes) will tell.

Wonder Woman has many memories...stories. There are stories of birth, of conquer, of social notoriety, etc...and some of the stories conflict. She doesn't know which ones to believe. In an effort to find her way home, she finds the Cheetah, Barbara Anne, both her former friend and nemesis. The women fight against an evil together to find their ways home. The volume ends on a cliffhanger but promises a straighter storyline in the future. #netgalley

Don't get me wrong, I do like Greg Rucka as a writer for Wonder Woman. (This sequence in particular would make William Moulton Marston smile). But why, oh why, couldn't DC have let Marguerite Bennett write Wonder Woman Rebirth?! Now that is a Wonder Woman comic I'd really want to read.

It will be interesting to see how this new series moves along. The artwork is great, and the artists have calmed down some of the “sluttyness” that is preveilet in almost any female superhero.
