I hadn't read this book since junior high so I didn't really remember anything going in. The pacing feels a little up and down, but overall an engaging read, even if it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat. Still a solid tween read.

1. I have a weakness for all sweets, but Starburst makes these jelly beans at Easter every year, &I have literally eaten them until I'm sick haha
2. If you've ever been playing cards & wished that part of the game involved throwing something at the other players, you should definitely get Throw Throw Burrito. I bought it this year & we played it the other day - a HUGE hit.

#BookMail Pt12 My final book from last fortnights haul is this beautiful hardcover edition of The Westing Game. I‘d never heard of this before @Liberty raved about how much she loved it. It completely passed me by as a kid, something I mean to rectify now. It sounds completely up my alley, Cluedo was my favourite game & I love the movie Clue which is based on it. This book sounds like a MG version of both. Can‘t wait to read it!🕵🏻‍♀️

I think I may be too old for this one...or maybe audio just isn‘t the right format for it, but I just couldn‘t get that into any of the characters in this classic mystery! I‘m glad I finally know the story, though!

Susannah I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one. I didn't read this book (or even really know about it, actually) until after I was an adult. I know it's a favorite of many kids who read it, though! I wish I had known about it when I was a kid. 2mo

This is a children‘s mystery novel. It is a good for book club. Students can discuss events in the story as they read and predict what might happen next.

Contemporary realistic fiction. This story is one I definitely want to keep reading. I‘m intrigued by the mystery and thrill of the tale so far and I think anyone would appreciate this book. It may be considered a children‘s book but I think anyone can enjoy the mystery of this novel and the language it uses. It doesn‘t try to be dumbed down for children, like the intro said, it‘s very much written for the adult in children.

The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, 1978. This classic mystery intrigued the reader from the very beginning. Without getting too much into the plot, the story is fun and thrilling and full of mystery. It‘s no wonder this book is considered such a beloved classic.

Reading this book for the first time as an adult, I find myself thoroughly enjoying it. The detailed constructed mystery is clever and I really like the playful narrative tone. Very funny in parts, I tittered so often. Great cast of characters that make the story so interesting, especially the female characters, which Raskin has powerfully created. Turtle Wexler is such a fun child protagonist-smart, plucky, kicks shins, plays the stock market! 👍

Over 20 years later and this book is still a forever favorite. As an adult I now recognize some out of date descriptions and slightly racist comments from the characters, but it falls to the side of a wonderful story and fun mystery! After listening to The Westing Game episode on The SSR Podcast by @ahoffkosik, I decided I needed to read the book again. I remember loving it when I read it in school but not much else. What a wild ride! So many twists & turns, & it's amazing that it's a kids' book because it reads like an adult mystery. There are a ton of details to keep track of, which was hard with the audio, but the voices helped! As did relistening to SSR after!

A little late this week, but I wanted a picture of the stack of books in my classroom. The Westing Game is the book I most look forward to reading with my 6th grade students each year. It's fun to read aloud with them and hear all their predictions.
