So my book arrived… with a different than expected cover 🥺😩

I emailed the seller and their response was that eBay do be like that sometimes (random updates that change book covers? is that plausible?) - they offered to refund if I sent it back…. but that seems like a lot of bother for a book that‘s only crime is not having the cover I was expecting…

Ruthiella Put the book in detention for a week and hopefully by the end it will repent of its misdeeds. 🙃 (edited) 2y

TheAromaofBooks I hate it when that happens!!! Apparently places like Thriftbooks and other people like that who sell on ebay can use “stock photos“ and don't have to supply an item that looks just like the one pictured... so frustrating when you're trying to find the right one! I've even emailed before to ask before purchasing and they're like “sorry, can't tell you“ 😕 So frustrating!! 2y

TheAromaofBooks It seems to be “business“ kind of places - like Goodwill, Thriftbooks, those types of places on ebay. If I really need a specific cover, I try to find ebay listings by individuals where there is more than one actual photo of the book, but that can be really challenging. If I'm willing to pay new prices, BookDepository seems to do a pretty good job with photo/cover matching as well. Not foolproof, but better than many! 2y

TheAromaofBooks I've also had better luck messaging sellers on AbeBooks, where it seems like a decent number of books are being sold by actual secondhand bookshops who are willing to check their stock. I wanted specific editions of all the Swallows & Amazons books & one seller not only was willing to check to see if the one listed was what I wanted, but let me know which others from the series he had in that edition, which meant I bought six books from him!! 😁 2y

Me discovering one of my favourite Christmas books comes in an edition with a absolutely stunningly kitsch cover and OBVIOUSLY BUYING IT IMMEDIATELY (we all knew that‘s where this was going).

Adore! I need my own copy! So much to love in the Christmas chaos that occurs in the Mountfield household. Nothing goes to plan, all the relies bring their A game in being horrible guests, tempers fray, potatoes and bread rolls get thrown. My favourite part involved Mum locking herself in the bathroom and refusing to come out until the Dad signed a Christmas holiday promise for next year in blood. Will reread next year!

I couldn't help starting to think a bit.

What I was thinking was that, up to a point Christmas is like a blown up but not yet knotted balloon that's been let go by mistake. It goes bla-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-are! And then shrivels into not much.

Well, I'm beginning to think Christmas is like that.
