A delightful frolic of a book. Murphy shifts the characters‘ thinking slightly toward the more modern, and shifts events so that, while important things remain the same, some things turn out a bit differently. I loved the way she uses magic to examine class in British society and the cheerful spirit that envied the book.

When I read about this book, I thought it sounded too good — an Pride and Prejudice-y retelling, but with magic! AND YET. So far, it is an absolute delight brightening my dreary day.

By far my favorite pride and prejudice adaption EVER! This book was so much fun and so well done, I wish there was a sequel so badly! I listened to this, but it was so good I also bought a copy and I expect to reread it for many years to come. 5/5 stars. This take does a lot to bring a more modern, diverse, and delightful take on P&P while weaving in magic and fantasy world building. The arc with Wicham is so much better in this story.

Chrissyreadit @sprainedbrain have you read this one? I just saw it - There are so many I want to read!!!! 4y

I have so many books to reaaaaad that I don‘t know where to start from. So I read a few pages from here and there and continue buying books (and sometimes books just show up on my doorstep like magic). I am not complaining though.

After a months long hiatus, my book club met last night. Drank lemondrop martinis and dished on our reading favorites and duds. We all enjoyed Magic and Manners. We are split on The Deep End.

Today I am thankful for crowdfunding and the loyal fans of C. E Murphy for making this gem of a novel available to us. It is a retelling of Pride and Prejudice with magic As delightful this concept is, I'm even more entranced by her other tweaks to the story. The Darcy character is a handsome man of African descent with enough English blood to give him gray-green eyes. Let us pause and heave a deep sigh over that swoon worthy image.
