Walking with Henri Nouwen
Walking with Henri Nouwen: A Reflective Journey | Robert Waldron
1 post | 1 to read
Written in journal form as a preparation for a retreat on Henri Nouwen, one of the most revered spiritual writers and guides of our time, this engaging book examines themes of brokenness transcended and integrated into Christian wholeness. Waldron takes full measure of Nouwen's often conflicted personal nature--struggles with loneliness, rejection, depression and sexuality--and professional--from brilliant tenure as a pastoral psychologist at Yale, Harvard and Notre Dame, to his call to personal ministry to the profoundly mentally and physically disabled at L'Arche Daybreak in Canada. He augments it with in-depth accounts of Nouwen's literary works, his interest in painting, iconography, music, and clowning. The result is this poignant, multifaceted work that resounds in its chief conceit--the "walk" or journey toward wholeness is achieved through the balm of healing that we receive when we follow Jesus' example and take on the crosses of the broken and weak. Students and scholars of art, literature, psychology, and religion, followers of Nouwen, retreatants, and the general public, will find this work compelling.

This is where I start my walks- from my front porch. While this magnificent magnolia is in bloom, I just had to share it. Cloudy sky picture was from Monday; the other two blue sky were from today. We planted this tree the spring after Robert was born, 24 years ago. It never has failed to bloom, even the spring after our October storm of 2011, when ice, wind, downed power lines, caused it to split & we were not sure of its recovery.

Bookartbookmarks This might sound strange, but when I read I picture like 10 of the same houses and where ever I think that character fits. I love your house and it sticks out so much to me that it will probably be one of the characters homes in my head now. 5y

Reggie That is beautiful just like it‘s story. 5y
kspenmoll @Reggie Love your idea of this as a story- it really is although I never thought of it that way. We have pictures of the trees blooming process for each year& pictures of Robert & his tree. It‘s a renewal & with the exception of daffodils, our first, though too fleeting, flowering of spring. 💕💕 5y
