The Black Robe
The Black Robe | Wilkie COLLINS
2 posts | 1 read
In The Black Robe, a strikingly original novel from master storyteller Wilkie Collins, what starts out as a night of fun and games turns tragic when a dispute over a card game leads to murder. Desperate to atone for his sin, the perpetrator tries to offer assistance to the victim's family, but instead finds himself enmeshed all the deeper in a web of falsehoods and intrigue. Will he ever be able to extricate himself and move on with his life?

Pickpick

Book 100 of the year, finished Nov 30, audio

I got so mad at the priest in this book I was muttering under my breath at him and calling him names. Which then made my husband think I'd lost my mind as I was listening on headphones while we were working together painting a bedroom. 😂

Solid Pick for me. I haven't been that worked up over a character in a long time.

Listening to this one on Librivox. The narrator has an accent I can't quite place and it's distracting.

I also can't tell of Collins likes women or not. This is the 3rd of his novels I've read and he always has women in the main set of characters, but he seems to equally despise and revere them. It's weird.
