The Bag I'm In
The Bag I'm In: Underground Music and Fashion in Britain, 1960-1990 | Sam Knee
2 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Youth subculture in twentieth-century Britainwas a unique phenomenon. Throughout the decades, young people sought to define themselves sartorially, reflecting their identity in terms of regionalism, class and crucially, musical taste, through their clothes. This book is a comprehensive survey of forty-five "tribes" that roamed the streets of Britain from the '60s to the '90s. From Mod to Skinhead and Rocker to Rudeboy, the look of each movement is captured in meticulously researched, previously unpublished archive photography. Explanatory texts by Sam Knee as well as an illustrated "look-book" appendixmake this an important resource for fashion students, musos and cultural historians.

Seriously great book! I was the U.S. kid reading NME and going straight to the Import bins at Tower,I knew some about the street fashion associated with some of the music scenes, but this filled in many gaps in my knowledge. What a treat! You get one page of text summing up scene/music/fashion and incredible photos. If you like this kind of stuff at all ,it‘s amazing.

ValerieAndBooks Tower Books for me and Tower Records for my boyfriend/now husband... memories!! Sigh those were the good old days!! 5y
Leftcoastzen @ValerieAndBooks I drive by a corner where the one from my high school years was, the property was reconfigured into a transit mall..I still see it in my minds eye and sigh. 5y
